Baby oh baby!

35 weeks with sister hugs, 37 weeks, and a few perspectives at 39 weeks

We are getting closer by the minute, but we've still got a little time to wait. At book club yesterday and friend shared a birth story of someone in their circle who went to the doctor, was 10 cm dilated, and was directed immediately to the hospital. Following her arrival, the baby was born in 15 minutes. I have my appointment at 10:45 this morning and now I have something to strive for! ;o)

Grammy & Baba are here, the baby let me finish my last week at work, and if (s)he waits another day or so, Steve will get through his busiest part of the week as well. Time will tell!

Return of the bump

I've been a little delinquent in posting bump pics, here are a few!

Walka-walka-walka

Mostly. In the span of under a month, Emma went from primarily crawling to primarily walking. She's so cute as she toddles around the house, the zoo, the park, well, the world! Her walking's getting faster and she's increasingly stable. For a baby who always looked pretty big, she looks awfully small to me as she wanders around her world.

Say cheese!

To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of our family, we had some great pictures taken by the wife of a guy I knew in college. Gotta love facebook. ;o) Here's a preview of a few and a link to the facebook album if you want to see the rest!

Life has been busy, but of course life has been busy. Emma's officially transitioned from a cruiser to a walker and it's pretty cute to see her toddling around, often with some prize in her hands. She is more and more of a joy each day, which is consistently surprising! They start out so wonderful, it's hard to believe they can get better!!

Our family shrunk a little bit, or maybe just was redistributed as Grandpa took Emmitt on a roadtrip to live in NM. It was sad (for me) to see him go, but the right choice for our family and I think the Wilsons are enjoying having a social cat around. It's nice to know we'll be able to visit him and catch up on Skype one of these days.

It's feeling like fall again today after a very nice, warm October so far. Hopefully we're not in for it this winter!

Good listener . . .

At least when it counts.

When I told Emma (or the baby who was either Emma or Wil) to stay put and under absolutely no circumstances come early, she listened.

When Steve told Emma to be nice to her mama while he's away, she listened (at least so far).

When I've told Emma not to tip over the dog dish, open the toilet, play with the kong, pull my hair, pinch my neck, grab my glasses, she doesn't.

I guess that means she's human. And she's pretty darn great.

Happy birthday baby Emma!! You are growing and changing right before our eyes! I held you as you ate early in the morning, thinking back to how tiny you looked 2 months ago when I stayed up with you that first night. You don't look as tiny anymore - you've gotten 2'' taller and have gained 5 lb 7 oz of beautiful baby chub. I wish I could bottle moments like that up so I can accurately recall them forever. I guess I'll have to keep doing my best to savor each precious moment with you, sweet girl!!

Love,

Mommy

The Amazing Emma

I was trying to come up with a fancy stage name for Emma, you know, for when she's displaying all of her tricks, but I'm drawing a blank. She does, however, have some tricks now!

*She can quickly move her head side to side to see what's going on in the world around her. *She has found her fist and loves spending time sucking away on it.

*She has mastered the ability to nap in her swing (or bouncy chair or once today even her crib!). *She has demonstrated tremendous lung capacity, particularly on car rides.

*And best of all, she can turn the world on with her smile!

We're pretty impressed by our little girl!

Day 32
1 month old - don't you think she's really smiling?!
Emma has made it through 1/12 of her first year. Sigh.

Busy week 2!

I cannot believe that Emma is 16 (!) days old!! She's had a busy second week of life - running lots of errands, heading in to the offices (both mommy's & daddy's), hanging out at the salon, buying cute shoes, cheering on football teams, having brunch, and hanging out with mommy, daddy, and grandma.

Grandpa Wilson left on Tuesday, sadly I'm sure, and we've got Grandma Wilson with us for a few more days. I'm getting a little anxious about going at this alone, but know we have great support around and that ultimately we really can handle this. It has been super nice having the help with meals and dishes and laundry, etc. over the past several weeks.

Emma is busy growing and changing with each moment. At her doctor's appointment Tuesday night she weighed in at 8 lb .05 oz and had grown almost an inch!! She's only in the 7th percentile for weight to length right now, we'll see how long that lasts. She's also starting to loose her newborn scrunch, starting to stretch her legs (and exercise her lungs) a bit more each day. Each change is bittersweet for her mommy, I love that she's a healthy, growing baby and it breaks my heart just a little to know how quickly it's all going. We definitely are doing our best to soak up each precious moment with our sweet baby girl!!
